How to Contact Chipotle: Phone, App and Support

Chipotle Support Guide

You are standing in a parking lot holding a bag with the wrong protein in it, or staring at a bank statement with two identical Chipotle charges on the same night, or watching a delivery driver’s dot circle a block that is not yours. You want a person. What you have found so far is a chatbot, a form that wants a twenty digit code you cannot locate, and a phone menu that loops.

This guide sorts the routes by the kind of problem you actually have, because that is the only thing that decides which one works. It covers the number that reaches a real restaurant, where the check number hides on the receipt, what to have ready before you start, and the one routing mistake that costs people a week of waiting for a refund that was never Chipotle’s to give.

The single fastest route, for most problems, is not the one Chipotle advertises. It is calling the specific restaurant that made your food and asking for the manager. That call is answered by someone standing forty feet from the grill who can look at your ticket, and it usually ends the problem in one conversation. Everything else, the in-app support flow, the website form, the feedback survey, the social accounts, is slower by design, because those routes create a record before they create a resolution. Which one you should use depends entirely on what went wrong, and if you are also trying to work out what you should have ordered instead, our Chipotle nutrition calculator handles that part.

The honest framing is this: Chipotle has no single door. There is a store level, an app level and a corporate level, and each one can solve a different set of problems and is powerless on the others. A general manager can remake your bowl but cannot touch your rewards balance. App support can credit your account but cannot tell you whether the person on the line put double rice in by accident. Corporate will not read your complaint about a burrito. Match the problem to the level and you will be done today. Guess wrong and you will spend three days being politely redirected.

There is one more thing worth saying before the detail starts, because it is the most common wasted week in this whole topic. If you placed your order inside a delivery marketplace app rather than inside Chipotle’s own app, Chipotle cannot refund you, cannot see most of your order and cannot help. That transaction belongs to the delivery company. Skip ahead to the delivery section if that is you.

Match your problem to a route

Read down the left column, find the thing that happened to you, and go where the table sends you. The times in the third column are what people typically report, not a service level Chipotle publishes anywhere, so treat them as a rough guide rather than a promise. Everything in this table is expanded in the sections underneath.

The one rule that saves the most time: the level that can fix your problem is the level that has the information about it. Anything that happened physically inside a restaurant belongs to that restaurant. Anything that happened to money or points belongs to the app. Nothing customer facing belongs to corporate.

Every problem type, in detail

This is the spine of the guide. Each of the situations below has a different owner inside Chipotle, and sending it to the wrong owner is what turns a five minute fix into a five email thread. For each one you get the same three things: where to go first, roughly how long it takes, and what to have in front of you when you start.

Wrong item, or an item missing from the bag

Go to the restaurant, by phone if you have already left, in person if you have not. Ask for the manager on duty by that phrase, because the person who answers the phone during a rush is often the least equipped to help you. Tell them the time you picked up, the name on the order, and what is wrong. They can pull the ticket, see what was rung in, and see what the line actually assembled. In most cases the answer is that they will remake the item and hold it for you, or note your name so you can collect it on your next visit.

Do this the same day. A manager who can still find the ticket and remember the shift will help you. A manager hearing about a bowl from nine days ago has nothing to work with and will send you to the app. If you cannot get back to the store, use the in-app support flow on that order instead and expect a credit rather than replacement food.

What to have ready: the receipt or the order number, a photograph of what you were given, and the approximate pickup time. The photo matters more than people expect. A steak bowl with chicken in it is obvious in a picture and arguable in a paragraph.

The order never arrived at all

First, establish who was carrying it. If you ordered inside Chipotle’s app or on chipotle.com and chose delivery, Chipotle owns the customer relationship even though a third party courier is driving. If you ordered inside a delivery marketplace, that company owns everything. Our guide to how Chipotle delivery works explains the split in more detail, and it is worth two minutes of your time because it determines who owes you money.

For a Chipotle placed delivery, open the order in your history and use the support option on that order. Say plainly that the food was never delivered, give the time you placed it, the time the app said it was delivered, and the address. If the driver marked it delivered and left it at a neighboring unit, say that too. These cases are usually resolved in one to three business days, and the outcome is normally a refund or a full credit.

Expect one frustrating detail: nobody can tell you where the food went. The courier network is a separate company, and Chipotle support sees a status flag rather than a live map. Push for the resolution, not the explanation.

You were charged twice

Check the two charges carefully before you report anything, because two things routinely look like double charges and are not. The first is a pending authorization sitting alongside the final settled charge, which drops off on its own within a few days. The second is a tip adjustment posting separately. If both amounts are identical, settled, and dated the same, you have a genuine duplicate.

Report it through the app or website support flow with both charge amounts, both dates and the last four digits of the card. Ask explicitly for a refund of the duplicate rather than a credit, because a credit does not help you if you were charged real money twice. These take three to ten days in practice, most of which is your bank rather than Chipotle. If ten days pass with no movement, dispute the duplicate with your card issuer and mention that you reported it and give the date.

A duplicate charge on an order you thought failed to go through is a related and very common case. Sometimes the app times out, you retry, and both orders actually exist. Check your order history before you report a double charge, because if there are two orders you may need to cancel the second Chipotle order rather than dispute a charge.

A refund was promised and has not arrived

Do not open a new ticket. Reply on the existing one, because a new ticket goes to the back of the line with none of the history attached and a different agent will ask you the same questions. Quote the reference number from the original reply, the date you were told the refund was issued, and the amount.

Understand the timing before you get angry. A refund to a card leaves Chipotle immediately and then sits inside the card network for several business days. Five to ten business days is normal, and it can be longer if a weekend and a holiday land in the middle. A refund to a gift card or to your Chipotle balance is instant by comparison, which is exactly why support prefers to offer one.

If the money still has not appeared after ten business days and the ticket has gone quiet, go to your card issuer. You are not doing anything unreasonable. You have a written promise of a refund and a date, which is precisely the evidence a dispute process wants.

Rewards points did not post

This one never belongs to the restaurant. Store staff cannot edit your rewards balance, and asking them to is a dead end that wastes a phone call. Points claims go through the app or website support flow under the rewards category.

Wait forty eight hours first. Points from an in store scan often post the next day rather than instantly, and a claim filed twenty minutes after the visit is a claim about nothing. If they are still missing, file with the receipt in hand. The three usual causes are paying without scanning at all, a scan that the register did not register, and an order placed while signed out. Guest orders do not earn points, and that catches people who ordered on a friend’s phone.

Claims have a deadline, generally measured in weeks rather than months, so do not sit on it. While you are in the rewards part of your account, it is worth knowing whether Chipotle points expire, because the answer changes how urgently you should be spending a balance you just fought to recover.

A gift card is not working

Gift cards are handled by the website support route rather than by the restaurant, although a manager can sometimes tell you whether a card scanned at all. Have the full card number, the PIN from the back, and the purchase receipt if you have it. A card bought from a supermarket rack that fails on first use is usually an activation problem at the retailer, and the purchase receipt is the only thing that proves it was paid for.

Two very ordinary causes account for most of these. The card was never activated at the register, which is a store level failure at the place you bought it. Or the number is being entered into the wrong field online, which happens constantly. Our walkthrough of using a Chipotle gift card online covers the entry sequence, and it is worth checking before you file a support ticket, because a mistyped PIN looks exactly like a broken card. Separately, if the card has been in a drawer for years, read up on whether Chipotle gift cards expire before you assume the balance is gone.

The app is broken, or you cannot log in

App and account problems go through app support under the account category, and they are the least predictable category on this page for resolution time. Before you file anything, rule out the ordinary causes, because most app failures are local rather than a service outage. Our guide on what to do when the Chipotle app is down walks through the checks in order, and it will save you a ticket most of the time.

If you do file, include the device model, the operating system version, the app version from the settings screen, and a screenshot of the error. An agent who has to ask for those loses two days doing it. If you cannot log in at all, say which sign in method you used originally, because an account created with a social login and then approached with a password reset produces exactly the loop people describe.

Catering problems

Catering is its own operation with its own ordering system and its own contact route, and it moves on a different clock because there is an event attached. If something is wrong with a catering order that has not happened yet, call the restaurant that is fulfilling it, immediately, and also use the catering contact on the website. Redundancy is correct here. A catering order for tomorrow morning is not a situation for a support ticket that gets read on Thursday.

Have the event date, the headcount, the order number and the delivery or pickup time. If you are still in the planning stage and the problem is really a budgeting question, our breakdown of Chipotle catering costs covers the per person math and the minimums.

Food safety concerns

These are handled separately further down this page because they need more than a routing note. The short version: tell the restaurant, file it through official support so it is recorded, and if anyone actually got sick, call your local health department as well.

Corporate, media and investor questions

None of these go through customer support, and sending them there guarantees a delay. Press goes to the newsroom, investor questions go to investor relations, and everything about employment goes through the careers portal. There is a short section on each of these near the end.

Job application questions

If you have applied and heard nothing, the careers portal is the formal route, but the practical route is walking into the restaurant you applied to and asking the general manager. Chipotle restaurants in the United States are company operated rather than franchised, and hiring for crew roles is still largely driven at the store level. A GM who is short staffed and looking at a face is a better prospect than a form. If you are checking eligibility first, our guide to the minimum hiring age at Chipotle answers the question that stops most applications before they start.

Calling the restaurant directly

Almost nobody does this, and it is the most effective thing on this page for in store problems. The reason people do not do it is that Chipotle does not put store phone numbers anywhere obvious in the app. The app is built to keep you inside the app. But the numbers exist, every restaurant has one, and they are published.

How to find the number for your specific restaurant

Open the official location finder

Go to the locations site rather than the main ordering site. The ordering flow shows you distances and pickup times, not phone numbers. The location finder is a separate directory built for exactly this.

Drill down by state, then city

The directory is organized geographically. Pick your state, then your city, then the specific restaurant. In a large metro this is the step where people go wrong, because there may be nine restaurants in one city and only one of them made your food.

Read the phone number on the store page

Each individual restaurant page lists the street address, the hours and a direct local phone number in the standard area code format. That is a real line inside that restaurant, not a call center.

Match the address to your receipt

Before you dial, check the address on the store page against the address printed at the top of your receipt or shown on your order confirmation. Calling the wrong branch of the same chain in the same city is a common and completely wasted call.

If you cannot get the directory to load, a plain map search for the restaurant by street address will normally surface the same number, since the listing data is syndicated. Our guide to finding the nearest Chipotle covers the locator in more detail, including how to tell two nearby restaurants apart when the map pins overlap.

When calling the store beats contacting support

Call the store when

The problem is physical: wrong protein, missing side, missing entree, food that arrived cold, an order that is not ready when the app said it would be, an allergen question about what is actually in the pans today, or a catering order that is about to go wrong. Also call if you are still in the parking lot, because a five minute walk back inside beats any digital process ever built.

Do not call the store when

The problem is money, points, gift cards, your account, the app, a marketplace delivery, or anything that needs a record. Crew cannot process refunds to your card, cannot adjust rewards, cannot see your account and cannot help with a DoorDash order. Calling them about those things is not rude, it is just guaranteed to fail.

When to call, and what to say

Timing matters more than you would think. Between roughly 11:30 am and 1:30 pm, and again from about 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm, the phone will ring out because everyone is on the line making food. The mid afternoon window, roughly 2 pm to 4 pm, is when a manager can actually talk. Late evening after the dinner rush also works, though you may catch someone mid close. If you are not sure the restaurant is even open, check whether that Chipotle is open today first, because holiday closures catch people out.

Open with the facts and the ask, in that order. Something like: “I picked up an order at 12:40 today under the name Dana, the bowl had chicken instead of steak, and I would like it remade.” That is thirty seconds and it gives a manager everything. What does not work is opening with how the day has gone. Managers are standing up, holding a phone in a loud room, and they will help you if they can get to the point. If the replacement meal is a chance to order something different, the Chipotle nutrition calculator will total it before you decide.

Ask for the manager’s name and write it down. If the fix requires you to come back for a replacement meal, having a name to give the next shift is the difference between being handed food and being asked to explain the whole story again to someone who was not there.

Is there a general Chipotle customer service phone number?

This is the question two of the biggest searches on this topic are really asking, so here is the honest answer rather than a comfortable one. Chipotle does not promote a general customer service hotline. There is no number on the ordering app, and the contact page steers you toward digital support tools rather than a phone line.

A number does circulate widely: 1-800-CHIPOTLE, which spells out as 1-800-244-7685. Third party consumer directories list it, people do call it, and it does connect. What it is not is a fast route to a human who can fix an order. Expect an automated menu, expect to be pointed back to the website or the app for anything order specific, and expect the experience to be slower than either calling the restaurant or filing a ticket. Because Chipotle does not advertise this line prominently, its hours and its menu options can change without notice, so confirm anything you read here against the official contact page before you plan your afternoon around a call.

There is also a corporate switchboard, as there is at any public company, and directory sites publish it. Calling a corporate switchboard about a burrito does not work. The person answering has no access to your order and will route you to the same support tools. It is worth knowing the number exists for genuinely corporate matters, and worth knowing it is the wrong tool for a customer complaint.

What a phone line can and cannot do

RouteCan doCannot do
The specific restaurant’s lineRemake food, hold a replacement, check a ticket, answer allergen and stock questions, fix a catering order in progressRefund a card, adjust rewards, fix the app, touch a marketplace delivery order
The widely listed 1-800 linePoint you to the right support channel, take general commentsResolve an order in the call, in most reports
Corporate switchboardRoute genuine business, media and investor callsAnything customer facing
App or website supportRefunds, credits, rewards fixes, gift cards, account issues, a written recordAnswer instantly, or tell you what happened in the kitchen

The practical conclusion is that the phone is an excellent tool aimed at one restaurant and a poor tool aimed at the company. If you want money back, you want a written ticket. If you want food fixed, you want the store.

Contacting support in the app and on the website

This is the route that produces a written record, and a written record is what you need for anything involving money. It is also the route people struggle to find, because the help section is not on the home screen and is not called “contact us” in the place you would expect it.

In the app, starting from an order

Always start from the order rather than from a generic help menu. Opening support from inside a specific order attaches the store, the timestamp, the items and the payment automatically, which removes an entire round of questions.

Open your account area

Tap the account or profile icon rather than anything on the ordering screen. The ordering screen is built to sell you food and contains no support links at all.

Find order history

Look for recent orders, past orders or order history depending on your app version. Every completed order you have placed while signed in will be listed with its date and total.

Open the order that went wrong

Tap into it. You will see the itemized contents, the restaurant, the time and the payment method. Check that this is the right order before you go further, especially if you order often.

Use the help or support option on that order

It sits at the bottom of the order detail, often below the items, and is easy to scroll past. This is the option that carries your order data into the ticket.

Pick the closest category and write plainly

Choose the category that matches, then describe what happened in three sentences: what you ordered, what you got, and what you want done. Attach the photo if the food was the problem.

On the website

The website path mirrors the app. Sign in first, because a signed out visitor gets a generic form with no order attached and that form is dramatically less useful. Once signed in, your account area holds the same order history, and each order carries the same support entry point.

The main contact page on chipotle.com is a hub rather than a form. It offers a chat assistant, a link into the support flow, and links out to careers, investor relations and the newsroom. The chat assistant handles common questions and hands off when it cannot. Treat it as a triage layer, not as an obstacle: answering its questions accurately is what routes you to the right support team, and fighting it by typing “agent” repeatedly does not reliably speed anything up.

Where the help section hides

Not on the home screen. Neither the app nor the website puts support on the first screen. You have to be in your account.

Below the order items, not above them. On the order detail page the help link is at the bottom, under the totals, which is why people scroll past it.

Different word depending on version. It has appeared as help, support, contact us and report a problem. Look for any of them.

Only for orders placed while signed in. A guest checkout order may not appear in history at all, which is one reason to always order signed in.

Time limited on some categories. Some issue types stop being selectable after a window has passed. Report on the day if you can.

If you are new to the whole ordering flow and the app itself is the thing confusing you, our guide to ordering at Chipotle covers the app and the line side by side, including which options exist in one and not the other.

Where the check number is on a Chipotle receipt

This trips up more people than it should, partly because a Chipotle receipt has several numbers on it and partly because different support forms want different ones. Here is what is actually printed and where.

The in store paper receipt, top to bottom

A standard printed receipt runs in a predictable order. At the very top is the restaurant identification: the store name, the street address, the city and the store’s phone number. Underneath that sits a compact block of small text carrying the transaction details, and this is the block people are looking for. It holds the date, the time, an identifier for the register or terminal, and a short numeric identifier for the check itself. That short number is what a support agent means when they ask for the check number.

Below that block comes the itemized food, one line per entree with the additions listed underneath it. Then the subtotal, the tax and the total. Then the payment: the card type, the last four digits, and the authorization detail. At the bottom sit the rewards messages and any promotional text.

The number that causes the most confusion is not the check number at all. Chipotle’s feedback survey asks for a long code, twenty digits, and that code is printed above the subtotal rather than up in the header block with the check number. People hunt through the header, find a short number, type it in, get rejected, and conclude the receipt is wrong. It is not. There are two different numbers and the survey wants the long one.

Number on the receiptWhere it sitsWhat it is used for
Check numberSmall text block near the top, under the store addressSupport tickets, in store lookups, points claims
Survey code (about twenty digits)Directly above the subtotal lineThe feedback survey only
Register or terminal numberSame header block as the check numberInternal use, rarely asked for
Card authorization and last four digitsPayment section, near the bottomDuplicate charge and refund cases
Order number (digital orders)Confirmation email and the app order detailEverything on a digital order

Digital orders do not have a check number

If you ordered in the app or on the website, stop looking. There is no check number on a digital order confirmation, and no support agent should be asking you for one. What you have instead is an order number, and it appears in three places: the confirmation email, the order detail screen in your account, and sometimes on the sticker on the foil if the restaurant prints one. That order number does everything the check number would have done.

Pickup orders sit awkwardly between the two. You ordered digitally, so you have an order number, but the restaurant also printed a ticket with its own identifier. Give the order number. It is the one that matches what support can search.

What the check number is actually used for

Support tickets

For an in store purchase with no digital order attached, the check number plus the date, time and store is how an agent finds the transaction. Without it they are searching a store’s whole day.

Missing points claims

If you paid in store and the points never posted, the receipt is the evidence. The check number identifies the exact transaction that should have earned them.

Feedback surveys

The survey does not want the check number, it wants the long code above the subtotal. This is the single most common mix up in this whole area.

Receipt layouts are not identical everywhere and can change when the register software is updated, so treat the descriptions above as the common case rather than a guarantee. If you cannot find a number the form is asking for, photograph the whole receipt and attach it to the ticket instead. Agents can read a receipt image perfectly well.

What to have ready before you make contact

Spend four minutes gathering this and you will very often finish in one exchange. Skip it and you will spend a week in a back and forth where each reply asks for one more thing. Support agents are not being obstructive when they ask; they genuinely cannot look up a transaction without enough to identify it.

The order number, for anything digital. From the confirmation email or the order detail screen. This is the single most useful item on the list and it makes several of the others unnecessary.

The check number, for an in store purchase. From the small text block near the top of the paper receipt. If you also want to do the survey, grab the long code above the subtotal while you are looking.

The date and the approximate time. To the nearest fifteen minutes is fine. “Tuesday around 12:45” narrows a search enormously compared with “last week”.

The restaurant, by street address. Not by city. A large metro has dozens of restaurants and naming the city identifies none of them. The address is on your receipt and in your order confirmation.

The payment method and the last four digits. Essential for anything involving a charge, a duplicate or a refund. Never send the full card number to anyone, on any channel, for any reason.

Photos, if the food was the problem. Take them before you eat any of it. A photo of the open container with the wrong protein visible settles the question instantly. A description of a bowl you already finished does not.

What you actually want. A refund, a replacement, points credited, or simply for a manager to know. Say it in the first message. Agents work from a menu of outcomes and naming yours speeds up the match.

Any previous ticket reference. If this is a follow up, the reference number is what keeps you at the front of the line instead of starting over with a new agent who knows nothing.

Write your description before you open the form. Three sentences: what you ordered, what happened, what you want. Forms have text limits and time out, and composing under pressure is how important details get left out.

Third party delivery orders are not Chipotle’s problem

This section exists because this single misunderstanding causes more wasted effort than everything else on this page combined. It is worth reading even if you think it does not apply to you, because plenty of people genuinely cannot remember which app they ordered in.

When you order food inside a delivery marketplace, you are buying from that marketplace. It takes the payment, it sets the prices, which are usually higher than the in store menu, it dispatches the courier, and it owns the refund process end to end. Chipotle made the food and handed it over. That is the whole extent of the relationship as far as your transaction is concerned. Chipotle support cannot see the payment, cannot issue a refund and in many cases cannot even confirm what was on the order.

How to tell which one you used

You ordered with Chipotle

The confirmation email comes from Chipotle, the order appears in your order history inside the Chipotle app, you earned rewards points on it, and the prices matched the in store menu. Chipotle support handles it.

You ordered with a marketplace

The confirmation comes from the delivery company, the order appears in that company’s app, you earned no Chipotle points, and the item prices were noticeably higher than in store. That company handles it, exclusively.

The rewards point is the quickest test. Chipotle rewards do not accrue on marketplace orders, so if you got no points, you did not order with Chipotle. Check your bank statement as a second test: the merchant name on the charge tells you who took your money, and whoever took your money is who refunds it.

What to do on a marketplace order

Open the app you actually ordered in, find the order, and use its help flow. Do it quickly, because these platforms typically limit how long a report window stays open, sometimes to a matter of hours after delivery. Be specific and attach photos. If the platform declines and you are certain you are right, escalate inside that platform first and only then consider a card dispute.

One genuinely useful thing to know: if the food itself was made wrong, as opposed to lost or late, it is still worth telling the restaurant, even though they cannot refund you. Managers use that information to coach the line, and if the same restaurant keeps making the same mistake, someone has to tell them. Just do not expect money from that call.

Do not file the same complaint in two places at once hoping one of them pays out. If you get a refund from the marketplace and a credit from Chipotle for the same order, that is the kind of pattern that gets accounts flagged. Pick the correct owner and stay there.

Giving feedback about a specific restaurant

Feedback and support are different things and go to different places. Support is a case that needs resolving. Feedback is information about a restaurant that you want the company to have. If you use the feedback route for a case, you will probably never hear back, and that is not a failure of the system, it is what the system is for.

The receipt survey

The survey on chipotle.com is the most direct feedback channel and it is tied to a specific visit. You need the long code printed above the subtotal on your receipt, which is about twenty digits. The survey asks how the visit went, how you placed the order, and what specifically was not right, with a free text box at the end. It also has an age gate, since you have to be thirteen or older to submit.

Two things make survey feedback more useful than a general complaint. It is attached to a store, a date and a shift, which means it lands in a report a general manager actually reads. And because it is structured, it aggregates: one bad rating is noise, a pattern across a month is something a field leader sees. If you want a specific restaurant to change, the survey is a better instrument than an angry post.

Positive feedback is worth more than you think

Nobody fills these in when the food is good, which is exactly why doing it has an effect. Name the person. “The woman working the register around 1 pm on Saturday” is enough for a manager to identify someone, and those mentions feed into recognition and, in some structures, into scheduling and promotion decisions. It costs three minutes and it is one of the few consumer actions that reliably reaches an individual.

Where feedback actually goes

Structured survey responses feed a reporting system that store leadership and field leadership both see. Free text comments are read, though not necessarily replied to. Complaints that describe a safety issue or an illness get escalated out of the feedback stream and into a different process. A general comment left through a contact form without a receipt code is the weakest version, because it cannot be tied to a store or a shift.

Social media as a contact route

Public posts occasionally work, and it is worth being clear about when. Chipotle’s social accounts are run by a marketing team with a route into customer support, and a short public post about a genuine problem sometimes gets picked up faster than a form. That is the upside, and it is real.

The limits are equally real. The account will almost always ask you to move to a private message or a support form, at which point you supply the same information you would have supplied at the start, so you have gained a nudge rather than a shortcut. Long threads do not get better outcomes than short ones. Tagging executives does not work. And there is a genuine risk in posting a receipt image publicly, because receipts carry your name, your card’s last four digits and the store you frequent. Cover those before you post anything.

Social works for

A stalled ticket that has gone quiet for a week. A widespread problem like an app outage, where you mainly want to know whether it is you or everyone. A short, specific, unemotional complaint that is easy to route.

Social does not work for

Anything involving payment details, anything involving illness, anything that needs a private record, and anything where you would be posting personal information about a named employee. Those all belong in a private ticket.

Reporting a food safety concern

Handle this differently from everything else on this page. A wrong protein is an inconvenience. Undercooked chicken, a foreign object, or an allergen that was supposed to be kept out of your bowl is a safety matter, and the routes for it are not the same.

Do these things in this order

Stop eating it and keep it

Put whatever is left in the refrigerator rather than the trash. If a health department gets involved, the food is evidence. If a foreign object is involved, keep the object.

Tell the restaurant, quickly

Call the store and ask for the manager. The point is not compensation, it is that they can pull the batch, check the line and stop the same thing reaching the next twenty people. Speed matters here in a way it does not for a missing side of guac.

File it through official support as well

A phone call to a store creates no company level record. Filing through the app or website support flow does, and that record is what matters if the issue turns out to be more than one bowl.

Call your local health department if anyone got sick

This is the step almost nobody takes and the one that has actual force. A health department can inspect the kitchen, and it can connect your report to other reports from the same restaurant. Reporting is free and you do not need proof.

See a doctor if symptoms are serious

High fever, blood, dehydration, symptoms lasting more than a couple of days, or any symptoms at all in a young child, an older adult, a pregnant person or someone immunocompromised. A clinical record also strengthens any later report.

Write down the details while they are fresh

Note what you ate, item by item and including the toppings, the exact restaurant, the date and time you ate, and the time symptoms started. Note anyone else who ate the same food and whether they were affected. Keep the receipt. Memory degrades fast and these details are what make a report usable rather than anecdotal.

This page is general consumer guidance, not medical advice. If you are unwell, contact a healthcare professional. If you believe a restaurant is operating unsafely, your local health department is the appropriate authority, and federal food safety information is published by the FDA.

Allergen problems specifically

If you told the restaurant about an allergy and the order came back with the allergen in it, report it to the manager immediately and file through support the same day. Be precise: which allergen, what you asked for, what you were given. Also be realistic about the environment. A restaurant that assembles food along an open line with shared surfaces and shared utensils cannot guarantee the absence of cross contact, and no honest guide should suggest otherwise. If your reaction is severe, that limitation is the more important fact than any single mistake.

Response times, compensation and what to do next

Knowing what normal looks like keeps you from either giving up too early or escalating something that was always going to take a week.

Realistic timing

Calling the restaurantAnswered or not answered, you will know immediatelyMinutes
Walking back into the restaurantThe fastest route in existence if you are still nearbyMinutes
App or website support ticketFirst reply, longer for anything involving payment1–3 business days
Rewards points claimInvestigated against the receipt you supplied2–7 days
Card refund reaching your accountMost of this delay is your bank, not Chipotle5–10 business days
General feedback formDesigned to collect data, not to replyOften no reply

Two timing quirks are worth knowing. Anything submitted Friday evening through Sunday tends to be picked up on Monday, so a weekend problem effectively costs you two extra days. And the clock on a refund only starts when the refund is actually issued, not when you were told it would be, which is why quoting the issue date back at them matters when you follow up.

What compensation usually looks like

Set your expectations here, because the gap between what people want and what is normally offered causes most of the second round of frustration. The default outcome for a food problem is a free entree code loaded into your rewards account. It covers a burrito, a bowl, tacos or a salad on a later visit. For a single missing item it is often worth more than the item was, which is why it gets offered.

Money back to your original payment method is reserved for cleaner cases: an order that was never made, a duplicate charge, a delivery that never arrived, or an order that was entirely wrong rather than partly wrong. If your case is one of those, say so plainly and ask for a refund rather than a credit, because you will otherwise be offered the credit first.

Free food is not the right resolution for an illness. If food made you sick, the point of contact is the record and the health department report, not a coupon. Accepting a credit does not remove your ability to report to a health department, but treating the coupon as the end of it means nobody with authority ever hears about the kitchen.

If the first response does not resolve it

Reply on the same ticket. Never start a new one. A new ticket means a new agent, a fresh position in the line and none of the history.

Restate the outcome you want, in one sentence. Vague dissatisfaction gets a vague reply. “I am asking for the twelve dollars refunded to the card ending 4471” gets processed.

Ask for escalation by name. The phrase “please escalate this to a supervisor” is understood and does something. Complaining harder to the same agent does not.

Add the store phone call as a parallel track. If the problem is physical and happened in one restaurant, a general manager can often just fix it while the ticket is still open.

Use the card dispute as a last resort, not a first one. It works, but it is slow, it can lock your ability to order, and issuers take a dim view of disputes filed before you tried the merchant.

Corporate, media, investor and careers contacts

Not everyone reading this is a customer with a burrito problem, and these routes are deliberately separate from consumer support.

Media and press

Press inquiries go through the company newsroom, which carries releases and media contact details. Sending a press question to customer support means it sits in a consumer support pile and probably dies there. Give your outlet, your deadline and your topic in the first message.

Investors and shareholders

The investor relations site carries filings, earnings materials, the transfer agent details and the correspondence address for shareholder matters. Anything about stock, filings or governance belongs there rather than with customer support.

Careers and applications

The careers portal handles applications, application status and most employment questions. For crew roles the store itself is often more responsive than the portal, because general managers do a lot of their own hiring.

Franchising, which does not exist

Chipotle restaurants in the United States are company operated. There is no franchise program to inquire about and no franchisee above your local restaurant to escalate to. The chain above your store is a field leader who is a Chipotle employee.

That last point has a practical consequence worth spelling out. At a franchised chain, a complaint that stalls can sometimes be taken to the owner of that specific restaurant, who has a strong commercial reason to care. At Chipotle there is no such person. Escalation runs up an internal management line, which is why the written support ticket and the request for a supervisor are the tools that actually move things.

How to avoid needing to contact them at all

Most support tickets in this category are preventable, and the prevention takes seconds rather than minutes. None of this is exciting advice. All of it works.

Check the bag before you leave. Open it at the counter. Count the entrees, look for the chips, look for the sides. Ninety percent of the problems described on this page are found and fixed in three seconds at the counter and take three days to fix from your kitchen.

Do the three second app check before you submit. Look at two things only: the restaurant address at the top, and the item list. Ordering to the wrong branch is startlingly common in dense cities, and once it is made there, it is made there.

Order signed in, never as a guest. A guest order earns no points, may not appear in your order history, and is dramatically harder to get support on because there is nothing to attach the ticket to.

Keep the receipt until you have eaten. Paper receipt in a pocket, digital confirmation left unarchived. It costs nothing and it is the difference between a claim and a story.

Photograph anything that looks wrong before you touch it. Ten seconds. Do it in the parking lot, not after you have picked at it at home.

Use the Chipotle app rather than a marketplace when you can. Cheaper prices, points, order history and a support route that can actually refund you. The convenience of the marketplace app costs you all four.

Know how the pickup lane works before you use it. If your restaurant has a Chipotlane pickup lane, remember it is pickup only for digital orders, so a mistake in the app cannot be corrected at the window.

Cancel early rather than complain later. If you realize the order is wrong within the first minute, cancelling is far easier than fixing. Our guide on cancelling a Chipotle order covers the very short window you have.

One more, which sounds trivial and is not: order at a time when the restaurant is not slammed. Mistakes cluster in the rush. A bowl assembled at 12:35 by a line running six deep is more likely to be wrong than the same bowl at 2:40, and the manager who could fix it has time to talk at 2:40 as well. And if you are rebuilding a regular order anyway, run it through the Chipotle nutrition calculator first so you only have to decide once.

Questions people ask

The questions below come up again and again on this topic, usually from someone who has already tried one route that did not work.

What is Chipotle’s customer service phone number?

Chipotle does not promote a single national customer service hotline the way an airline or a bank does. Third party directories list 1-800-CHIPOTLE, which is 1-800-244-7685, and callers do reach an automated system there, but the company steers almost everything through the support tools on chipotle.com and in the app. For an order problem at a specific restaurant, the number that actually helps you is the direct line for that store, which is printed on its page in the official location finder. Confirm any number on the official contact page before you rely on it.

Does calling the restaurant directly actually work?

For anything that happened inside one restaurant, yes, and it is usually the fastest option available to you. A manager can look at the ticket, see who made the order and fix it on the spot, often by telling you to come back for a replacement meal. Call in the mid afternoon lull, roughly 2 pm to 4 pm, because nobody will pick up during the lunch rush. Find the number by opening the official location finder, selecting your restaurant and reading the phone line on that store page.

Where is the check number on a Chipotle receipt?

On an in store paper receipt, look at the block of small text near the top, under the store address and above the itemized food. That block carries the date, the time, the register or terminal, and a short numeric identifier for the check. Separately, if you want to complete the feedback survey, the code you need is the long twenty digit number printed above the subtotal, not the short check number. On a digital order confirmation there is no check number at all, only an order number in your email and in the app.

How do I get a refund for a wrong Chipotle order?

Start in the app or on the website, in the order history, and open the specific order that went wrong. There is a help or support option attached to that order, and using it attaches the order details automatically so you do not have to type them out. Describe exactly what was wrong, keep the photo you took, and say what you want. Digital orders are usually resolved with a credit or a free entree code within a few days. Card refunds take longer because they have to clear your bank.

I ordered Chipotle through DoorDash and it was wrong. Who do I contact?

Go to the delivery platform, not to Chipotle. When you order through a third party marketplace, that company owns the transaction, holds your payment and controls the refund. Chipotle support can see very little about that order and cannot issue money back on it. Open the app you actually ordered in, find the order, and use its help flow within the window it gives you, which is often short. This single piece of misrouting wastes more people’s time than anything else on this page.

How long does Chipotle support usually take to respond?

A phone call to the restaurant is answered in minutes or not at all, so it is the fastest route by a wide margin. A support ticket through the app or website generally gets a first reply inside one to three business days, and messier cases involving payment take longer. A general feedback form submission may never get a personal reply at all, because it is designed to collect data rather than resolve a case. Weekend submissions tend to sit until the following week.

What does Chipotle usually offer as compensation?

In practice you are most likely to be offered a free entree code loaded to your rewards account, which covers a burrito, bowl, tacos or a salad on a later visit. For a missing item on a smaller order that is often more value than the item was worth. Actual money back to your card is reserved for orders that were never made, were charged twice, or were entirely wrong. If the food made you ill, do not accept a coupon as the end of it and report the illness properly.

My Chipotle rewards points are missing. Who fixes that?

Points claims go through the app or website support flow, not through the restaurant, because store staff cannot edit your rewards balance. Have the receipt ready. Points usually post within a day or two of the visit, so give it forty eight hours before you report anything. Missing points most often come from paying without scanning, from a scan that failed at the register, or from an order placed as a guest rather than while signed in. Claims generally have a deadline measured in weeks, so file promptly.

How do I report a food safety concern at Chipotle?

Tell the restaurant first so they can pull the batch, then file a report through the official support channel so it is recorded at the company level. If anyone actually got sick, also call your local health department, which is the only body that can inspect the kitchen and connect your case to others. Keep the receipt, keep any remaining food in the refrigerator, and write down what you ate and when symptoms started. Reporting to the health department is free and you do not need proof.

Can I contact Chipotle on social media?

You can, and a short public post about a real problem sometimes gets routed to a support person faster than a form does. It works best as a nudge, not as a full complaint, because the account will almost always ask you to move to a private channel and give the same details you would have given anyway. Never post a receipt image without covering the card digits and your name. Anything involving payment, illness or a personal dispute belongs in a private ticket.

How do I reach Chipotle corporate rather than customer service?

Corporate routes are separate and deliberately narrow. Investor material and the address for shareholder correspondence sit on the investor relations site, press inquiries go through the newsroom rather than through customer support, and job applications and interview questions are handled inside the careers portal, not by the support team. Chipotle restaurants in the United States are company operated rather than franchised, so there is no franchisee to escalate to. Sending a customer complaint to a corporate address rarely gets it resolved faster.

What information should I have ready before I contact Chipotle?

Order number for a digital order, or the check number and the twenty digit survey code for an in store receipt. The date and rough time. The exact restaurant, by street address rather than by city, because large metros have many. The payment method and the last four digits of the card. A clear photo of the food if the food was the problem. Having all of that in your first message is the difference between one exchange and five over the course of a week.

The quick version

Match the problem to the level. Anything physical that happened inside one restaurant goes to that restaurant, by phone, ideally in the mid afternoon lull when a manager can pick up, and the number is on that store’s page in the official location finder. Anything involving money, points, gift cards or your account goes through the support flow attached to the specific order in the app or on the website, because that is what creates a written record. There is no promoted general customer service hotline, the widely listed 1-800 number mostly routes you back to those tools, and if you ordered through a delivery marketplace, Chipotle cannot refund you at all. Before you contact anyone, have the order number or the check number, the date and time, the street address of the restaurant, the last four digits of the card and a photo if the food was wrong.

Once the order is sorted, the rest of the planning is easier: build the meal in the Chipotle nutrition calculator before you reorder, check whether your Chipotle is open today, see how Chipotle delivery works so the next order goes to the right place, read up on how long Chipotle points last before you spend the credit you were given, and browse the rest of our Chipotle guides for the menu, price and rewards detail. If you are comparing bowl chains, our CAVA calorie calculator does the same job for the Mediterranean side of the aisle, and Waldev has the rest of our free calculators.

Contact routes, phone lines, app menus and support categories change without notice, and receipt layouts differ between restaurants and register versions. Everything here describes the common case at the time of writing rather than a guarantee, so confirm current details on Chipotle’s official contact page before you rely on them. Nothing on this page is legal or medical advice. If food has made you ill, contact a healthcare professional and your local health department.
